Communication in Serious and Terminal Illness
Maryjo Prince-Paul, PhD, RN
Maryjo Prince-Paul is a nationally recognized health care leader, nurse scientist, administrator, trainer, and speaker with expertise in oncology, health communication, and hospice and palliative care program development and policy initiatives. Dr. Prince-Paul’s post-doctoral Fellowship at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center was funded by the NIH National Cancer Institute and focused on instrument development in health care communication in advanced illness. From 2006-2020, Dr. Prince-Paul served on the faculty at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University, where she developed and taught numerous courses and curricula, published programmatic research, contributed to governance, fostered palliative care clinical partnerships with community providers, and mentored and developed students and colleagues. Currently, she is a serious illness consultant who translates clinical insight into operating models that scale in collaboration with providers, payers, and investors to improve the quality-of-life of patients living with a serious illness and their family.
