This column will focus on Cuyahoga and Geauga County students who are making a difference on campus and in the community. This inaugural column features a team of leaders at CSU-SNA. Taylor Novak-Freier, President and Miranda Wood, Vice President, met with the GCNA BOD on August 8th to discuss their organizational changes, goals, and how to best interface with GCNA.
Efforts are underway to become a National Student Nurses Association constituent. This year Dean Gaspar pledged 50% support for 10 students from CSU -SNA to become national members. These student nurse leaders project a stronger presence on campus and will continue community involvement. Current volunteer efforts include work at the Cleveland Food Bank, MedWish, and Ronald McDonald House. Monthly, ongoing health fairs and clinics are held at John Glenn Smith Health Center, Project HOPE St. Clair, and Parma Senior Center.
CSU-SNA invites GCNA participation at volunteering and career enrichment events this academic year. GCNA will post a calendar of community events so members can choose how and when to participate.
Is it time to reinvent the mentoring program? YES – especially with student initiation and interest. CSU senior nursing students will be identifying their intensive study clinical rotations and would like to pair with nurses who have similar clinical practice, current or retired. The ultimate goal is to help students become involved, educated nurses and members of our professional organizations.
Call, text or email GCNA if you are interested in being a mentor to a senior nursing student!
