One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Many of us have heard that before, but this Cleveland organization makes that statement a reality. MedWish International is a company that collects medical equipment that is expired or no longer used or from healthcare locations. Most of these items would be thrown out, but MedWish re-purposes those materials and ships them to local organizations or to developing countries in need of basic medical supplies.
One of GCNA’s goals is to increase the community service we provide to promote global health. Seven GCNA members gave back to the community at MedWish on Saturday, February 16, 2019 by sorting and distributing multiple boxes of supplies. Through the collaboration of MedWish and many volunteers, people around the world are impacted in ways that would have never been possible before.
Although we may never know where that one piece of IV tubing we placed in the bin ends up, we do know that it has the potential to administer a life-saving antibiotic to a 5-year-old child in India. That is a powerful thought, and that is why GCNA has chosen to serve not only our community, but our world.
